Unemployment Rate Continues Rising in Marshall County

Marshall County’s unemployment rate continues to tick higher. Its March unemployment rate was four percent, according to the latest report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

That’s an increase of a tenth of a percent for the second month in a row. It’s also up six-tenths of a percent from March of 2020, the last reporting period before the full impact of COVID-19. Almost 400 fewer Marshall County residents are believed to be working, compared to a year ago.

Elkhart County has the lowest unemployment rate of Marshall County’s neighbors at 3.5 percent, while Starke County’s is highest at 5.5. Indiana’s non-seasonally adjusted rate stayed at 4.7 percent, while the U.S. dipped to 6.2 percent.
