The solar energy project at the North Liberty Elementary School is producing good numbers so far.
North Liberty Elementary School Principal Randy Romer told the John Glenn School Board Tuesday night that the solar field has produced 259 kWh of energy since its initiation in March. Superintendent Christopher Winchell added that Johnson-Melloh Solutions will complete a one year commissioning with the school corporation.
Winchell said, “We have a lengthy guaranteed contract with them that if we don’t produce so much solar energy and if we don’t save an x amount on our electric bill, they’ll actually cut us check to make the difference on that guarantee.”
They are expected to monitor the solar energy production and usage for one year to make sure there is a guaranteed savings.
Winchell mentioned that the company also works with the Argos Community School Corporation with their solar project. Argos schools realized over $70,000 in energy savings over the past year. Winchell said he hopes the same comes true for North Liberty.
