Plymouth Community School Superintendent Andy Hartley updated the school board members Tuesday night on COVID-19 guidelines.
Hartley explained that Governor Holcomb’s Executive Order requires students and staff members in K-12 education to keep wearing masks through the end of the corporation’s school year. Hartley added that the Marshall County Health Department suggested that the guideline continues.
Hartley stated, “They just stressed that what we’ve been doing has worked and it’s allowed us to be in school up to this point and they want that to continue through the remainder of the school year. So, that’s what we’re going to do. We’ll continue to require masks at school, continue to follow the guidelines and expectations provided to us by the state and local officials. We’ve really valued that partnership with our local health department. I just continue to hear from them and their care and concern for our students and staff to make sure we have a safe and healthy environment.”
On top of that, the Health Department has coordinated vaccination clinics with the school corporation.
“We had one just prior to spring break and we have the other one scheduled for next week. We really appreciate their efforts in that regard and the opportunity they’ve created for our staff for those who choose to get vaccinated. We had around 100 staff members choose to do that on that first day which was amazing.”
Additionally, Hartley said there are several traditions that will be returning this spring, including an outdoor prom, honors banquets, and various award ceremonies.
“Things are going to look a little different, but we’re going to get those back into the mix. We’ll promote a safe environment, but also one that helps us celebrate the accomplishments of our students, of our teachers and staff this year. We’re excited for that.”
Hartley pointed out that graduation will be outside on the football field again this year on June 4. He said the outdoor ceremony may become a new tradition at Plymouth High School.
