Plymouth School Board Approves European Trip

The Plymouth School Board members considered a request to resume the European History Tour for students in 2022.

Plymouth High School Social Studies teachers Melissa Faulstich and Laura Kruyer made the request saying 80 travelers would go to London, the Beaches of Normandy, other areas of France including Paris, and the Netherlands.  Several historical sites will be open for students to experience as well as different types of travel which involves a train ride into the Netherlands.

Kruyer said it is a great experience for the students as she previously went on a trip.  She added that it is well-guided so students learn a lot during the excursion and it is well organized.

“You really just don’t get a sense of it until you’re there, and you’re looking across the beach and you’re seeing the challenges our soldiers had in making that invasion,” stated Kruyer.  “That is probably one of the most valuable parts of the trip is the learning that goes with it.

Board President Melissa Christiansen asked about protections in case things happen surrounding COVID-19.  If the trip has to be canceled, all money will be refunded, and it would be rescheduled.  If one country shuts down, then plans could change.

Christiansen and fellow school board member Larry Pinkerton stated that is a great opportunity for students and a step toward life after the pandemic.

The board members approved the trip request with a unanimous vote.
