Number of State, Local COVID-19 Cases Increasing

Seventeen new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the tri-county area, according to Thursday’s report from the Indiana Department of Health.

Fourteen more people in Marshall County tested positive with COVID-19, along with one more person in Starke County and two more people in Pulaski County.  They are among 1,397 additional people in the state who have been diagnosed with COVID-19. 

Another 16 people in the state have died of COVID-19, raising the total to 12,710. 

The number of COVID-19 patients seeking treatment in the hospital continues to increase with 795 in the state, as reflected in Thursday’s update. 

Residents age 16 and older are eligible to schedule an appointment to get the COVID-19 vaccine.  An appointment can be made by visiting https://ourshot.in.gov or calling 211.

Appointments are still available at the mass vaccination site at Roosevelt Park in Gary and mobile sites in Michigan City and Merrillville. The three sites opened April 7, and 3,057 doses were administered in the first day.

A total of 3,195,357 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Indiana so far, including the first and second Pfizer and Moderna doses and the single Johnson & Johnson dose.
