A Fort Wayne woman was taken to the hospital, following a crash on U.S. 30 in Marshall County Friday afternoon. Indiana State Police say that around 3:20 p.m., a westbound semi failed to stop at a red light at King Road and ran into the back of a Toyota passenger car that was waiting at the light. Officers say both vehicles continued through the intersection stuck together, before eventually coming to a rest.

Trooper Jon Price happened to be sitting in his police car on the south side of the intersection. When he responded to the scene, he reportedly found the driver of the Toyota, Alexis Owens, 19, bleeding heavily from her face but alert and conscious. She was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Price believes her injuries could have been worse had she not been wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the semi, Pavel Galiant of, 67, Kent, Washington, was cited for disregarding a traffic light. He wasn’t hurt.

Police don’t believe alcohol and drugs were factors in the crash. Westbound U.S. 30 was down to one lane during the investigation.
