Bourbon firefighters were called to a house fire in the 400 East block of Liberty Street around 6:15 a.m. ET Wednesday.
Fire Chief Mike Chapman said the fire started in the bedroom and spread to adjoining rooms. He said an occupant was smoking in the room when it started. With the quick response of firefighters, the damage was contained to those areas with some roof damage. Chapman said the home sustained about $30,000-$35,000 in damage. Water and smoke damage occurred throughout the home.
The fire was contained quickly and fire crews left the scene after two hours.
Liberty Street in Bourbon was closed during the event.
The Bourbon Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Tippecanoe Fire Department, Etna Green Fire Department, and EMS. No injuries were reported.
