An offender who was recently found guilty on two counts of dealing in methamphetamine in a trial was sentenced Thursday, April 1 in Marshall County Superior Court No. 1.
A jury found 42-year-old Aaron W. Egger guilty on the counts following a two-day trial in Marshall County in early March. An extensive investigation by the Marshall County Undercover Narcotics Investigation Team led to the charges. Additionally, Egger was determined to be a habitual offender based on prior felony convictions including burglary and a meth-related felony, according to the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.
Information released by the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office included that during the sentencing hearing, Egger testified he sold meth to friends who struggled with addiction and indicated “profiting from the sales was his motivation.”
Marshall County Deputy Prosecutor Matt Sarber, who represented the State of Indiana in this case, argued to Judge Robert O. Bowen of Egger’s actions as well as his past criminal history during the sentencing hearing. He noted Egger’s 14 felony and six misdemeanor sentences and that he had numerous past probation and community corrections violations.
Judge Bowen took all of that into consideration, along with Defense Attorney Alex Hoover’s comments. Judge Bowen ultimately sentenced Egger to a total of 25 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections.
