The filter issue at a water plant in Bremen appears that it can be repaired, but a final estimated cost has not been figured.
Bremen Water Superintendent Alex Mikel previously explained that the filter, which dates back to 1965, failed which reduced the pumping capacity at that plant. A portion of the floor also collapsed which caused some media to get into an area where it should not be. Media, or filtering material, is made up of several layers of gravel, sand, green sand, and anthracite.
He said work has been done to repair the issues and it is the hope that the repairs will last another 15 years until the bond is up and then the council can look into a major rehabilitation.
Ken Jones from JPR told the Bremen Town Council members recently that they assessed whether or not to take that plant offline, but it needs to remain active.
“As we were doing that analysis we did uncover that there is a little bit of a deficiency in the fire protection elevated storage so we think that that filter ought to come back on,” said Jones.
Further updates may be made when the town council meets again on Monday, April 26 at 4:30 p.m. ET the Bremen Town Hall.
