The federal law that allowed residents to claim 80 hours of pay for being off work for COVID-19-related health issues expired at the end of 2020, but the Bremen Town Council members this week discussed extending that through the end of August of 2021.
Clerk-Treasurer Janet Anglemyer said the council could choose to extend that offer or the employees would need to use their own sick days, personal days or vacation days during a COVID-19 sickness or quarantine time.
It would be the remainder of what was not used in 2020 for those purposes.
Anglemyer reminded the council members that if it is extended, then the employee would not need to use their own days available to be off, but would be paid that time out of this year’s budget.
The council members voted unanimously to approve the extension of the law until August 31. They will review the deadline date in August, and if it needs to be extended they can do that.
