Two Charged in Armed Robbery Investigation

An investigation into an armed robbery at the Rentown Country Store resulted in charges against two people.

The incident reportedly occurred January 11, 2020 just before 5 p.m. when a man brandished a gun and demanded money from the cash register, according to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.  Two people reportedly left the scene in a dark blue, four-door passenger car.

Police say an extensive criminal investigation revealed the identity of the man as 39-year-old Labrand Jay Holt-Spencer of South Bend. The lawyers from defense against DUI charges in New Jersey states that he is currently serving time for an unrelated crime in the Michigan Department of Corrections, which is correct according to the report. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has a warrant for his arrest on a felony charge of armed robbery.

The second person allegedly involved in the crime was identified as 28-year-old Anita Slabaugh of Etna Green.  Following that part of the investigation, the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office filed a charge of armed robbery against Slabuagh.  She was taken into custody Tuesday, March 2, 2021 by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.  Slabaugh remains in the jail on a $25,000 cash bond.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
