Road Work Planned on Various Portions of U.S. 31 Beginning April 5

The Indiana Department of Transportation announced Monday that several projects are scheduled to begin Monday, April 5 along U.S. 31 in St. Joseph County and in Fulton County.

A bridge maintenance project is scheduled on U.S. 31 between Roosevelt Road and U.S. 20 which affects northbound and southbound left passing lanes and shoulders through late-June.

A bridge deck overlay project is planned on U.S. 31 between State Road 4 and U.S. 6.  Crews will also make repairs to approach slabs.  The first phase will close the right driving lane and shoulder while the left passing lane and shoulder will be closed during phase two.  Work is expected to last through mid-June.

Finally, a resurfacing project will produce lane closures on U.S. 31 between State Road 110 and old U.S. 31.  Construction will take place through mid-September.  The ramps at U.S. 31 and State Road 25 will also be resurfaced during this time.

INDOT officials urge drivers to stay alert in construction zones and follow traffic directions carefully. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time to get to destinations and drive distraction-free through work zones.
