Local Number of New COVID-19 Cases Increase Slightly

Nearly 20 additional people in the tri-county area have tested positive with COVID-19, according to Thursday’s report from the Indiana Department of Health. 

Eight more Marshall County residents tested positive, along with five more people in Starke County and six new cases in Pulaski County.   

The Indiana Department of Health reported that 962 additional people tested positive in the state from November 21 to March 3 for a new overall total of 664,446.  Regenstrief Institute statistics show that 6,551 people in the state are actively fighting the virus.  Ninety-six percent of people who have had COVID-19 have recovered. 

Thirty-two more people in the state died from COVID-19 with confirmed reports from August 26 to March 3 which pushes the total number of deaths to 12,231. 

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 continues to decrease with only 692 people in hospitals around Indiana, according to Thursday’s report.  In late November, 3,460 people were hospitalized due to issues with COVID-19.

As of Thursday, 1,061,173 first doses of vaccine have been administered in Indiana and 633,123 individuals are fully vaccinated.  Starke County Health Nurse Frank Lynch said over 4,300 doses, which includes both shots, have been administered to Starke County residents.  Over 300 doses of the vaccine were scheduled to be administered between Wednesday and Thursday.  Additionally, over 10,500 doses have been administered in Marshall County and over 3,600 have been administered in Pulaski County.
