The time has come to observe the beginning of Daylight Saving Time.
Before you go to bed Saturday night, or at 2 a.m. local time Sunday, March 14, move clocks ahead one hour. Many digital clocks may already perform this task, but some digital devices may not spring forward automatically. Make sure all clocks are properly set ahead one hour.
It is also a good time to check smoke detectors. State Fire Marshal Joel Thacker encourages residents to change batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors or do a routine check to make sure all devices are working properly. Also, replace any smoke alarms that are more than 10 years old as sensors may no longer be effective.
Thacker advises all Indiana residents to have at least one working smoke alarm in their residence. Ideally, smoke alarms should be located outside of each sleeping area. There should also be at least one smoke alarm on every floor. For more information about smoke alarms and fire safety, check out the Indiana Department of Homeland Security Get Alarmed Program.
