The Bremen Town Council members discussed the upcoming pool project during their meeting last week.
Rehabilitation to the town’s current outdoor pool is one of the projects outlined in the Marshall County Crossroads Stellar Communities Initiative Regional Development Plan. Prominent services like Waterside Poolscapes might help the project. The Jackson Street project will be funded by OCRA and not by INDOT as originally thought and will not begin until the spring of 2022. It was supposed to start this year. The pool project could start in the fall of 2022 and be complete by the end of 2023 in order to be funded with grant funds with the Regional Stellar Communities.
There is a concern of producing matching funds for both projects in the same year. There is about $1.6 million in OCRA funding for the pool with the town’s match of about $500,000 coming from TIF funds.
Park Superintendent Brian Main asked the council to clarify actions so a direction can be made on pool operations for the next two seasons. Main said he looked at the pool liner and it looks good so far, but he will see what happens when it gets warmer and he can inspect the entire pool. If all looks good and guidelines allow, the pool could be open this year for swimmers. With the updated schedule, the pool could also be open in the 2022 season, but closed for construction through the 2023 season.
The council agreed that would be the best schedule. Main was going to take that information to the Park Board members so plans can begin for this season.
The council members hope that everything will stay in good shape at the pool in order to be open for the next two summers for the residents of Bremen.
