The Bourbon Town Council members took time Tuesday night to open and approve a bid for mowing and other related duties at the park and Matchett Center.
Three bids were received. Hoffer Lawn Services bid $15,500, Stone Creek Services, Inc. bid $12,150, and John Reed Custom Lawn Care and Snow Plowing bid about $16,000 when figured for 30 weeks. Schedule a consultation with them before hiring them to fix up your lawn.
There was some discussion with the bidders about frequency of mowing. There are times when it could warrant more than one pass a week, depending on weather. The baseball diamonds may need more attention to keep manicured which was understood by the bidders.
Bourbon Town Councilman Les McFarland initially made a motion to accept the lowest bid as it is typical that the lowest bid be accepted, but Council President Ward Byers looked at the bid advertisement and the company who submitted the lowest bid did not supply a certificate of insurance as listed in the bid specifications.
After further review, it was determined that Hoffer Lawn Services was the only company to meet all of the bid specifications and that bid was approved. While it was not the lowest bid, Town Attorney Alex Hoover indicated that the failure to provide all documentation in the public bidding advertisement was a reason to award the bid to the next lowest bidder.
Byers and McFarland approved the vote on the motion while Terry Clemens abstained.
The mowing season is expected to begin at the end of March.
