The number of new positive COVID-19 cases in the tri-county area remains low.
According to Tuesday’s report from the Indiana Department of Health, Marshall County had 10 new positive COVID-19 cases out of 21 new tests, one new case in Starke County out of six new tests, and one new case in Pulaski County out of four new tests.
The total number of Marshall County residents who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 since last year totals 5,193, along with 1,806 people in Starke County, and 1,001 people in Pulaski County.
Another 65 people have died of COVID-19 in the state which brings the total number of deaths to 9,677. The number increases by 377 if probable COVID-19 deaths are counted.
Residents over the age of 65, along with healthcare workers, long-term care residents, and first responders who are regularly called to the scene of an emergency to render medical assistance are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Just about 96,000 people ages 65 to 69 to signed up Monday to receive the vaccine, which was the first day the opportunity opened up to residents in that age group. A total of nearly 103,000 first-dose appointments for all eligible age groups were scheduled Monday.
Since Indiana began offering vaccine in late December, more than 1.3 million first and second dose appointments have been scheduled.
As of Tuesday, 586,937 Hoosiers have received a first dose of vaccine, including 3,774 people in Marshall County, 1,405 people in Starke County and 1,316 in Pulaski County.
Over 155,000 people in the state are fully vaccinated, including 728 people in Marshall County, 167 people in Starke County and 204 people in Pulaski County.
