The Plymouth School Board members reviewed a few new courses that will be offered in the 2021-2022 school year.
Superintendent Andy Hartley explained that the course offerings are in line with Governor Eric Holcomb’s Workforce Cabinet with Career and Technical Education and the Next Level Programs of Study.
The new courses include Robotics Design and Innovation, Principles of Agriculture, Principles of Business, Business Administration Fundamentals, Accounting Fundamentals, Marketing Fundamentals, Strategic Marketing, Principles of Teaching, Principles of Human Services, Relationships and Emotions, Disability Services, Principles of Computers and Informatics, and Principles of Visual Communication.
Hartley said the courses are very similar to what is currently being offered in shared vocational programs, but they are broken up into several different courses.
Hartley stated, “The goal, it’s probably multi-faceted, is it can provide flexibility. It can also provide opportunities for students if they go to year two, or Level Two in that Pathway Capstone Course, to perhaps be getting that learning experience in the workplace somewhere or diving into maybe more of a leadership role out at Building Trades or along those lines.”
The additional programs will not require additional personnel or monetary needs. Plymouth schools already budgets partnerships with vocational programs in their annual budget.
The board approved the new courses with a unanimous vote.
