The Plymouth City Council members opened a public hearing Monday night to take comments on the proposed second phase of the River Park Square project in Plymouth.
The project is one of several listed in the Marshall County Crossroads Regional Stellar Communities Initiative’s Regional Development Plan that will receive funding assistance through the state.
Priority Project Resources Grant Writer Shannon McLeod explained that several new features will be included in the project which continues the city’s plan and the park department’s plan for updates and improvements at River Park Square.
“There will be an open shelter picnic pavilion that will be added, and there’s going to be a natural playground that will be added,” McLeod commented. “There is also going to be a permanent cornhole game put in that will be there for people in the park to utilize, a sensory garden, lots of flowers, a Veterans Memorial Plaza, a synthetic ice rink, and then we’ll be doing ADA sidewalks throughout the remaining back portion so that all of these elements will be accessible. There will also be an additional 14 parking spaces along Garro Street.”
The total cost of the project is estimated at $700,000. The city will be applying for grant funds in the amount of $560,000 of which the city will match $140,000.
There were no public comments voiced during the public hearing.
McLeod noted that the process is in the beginning stages of the application process. Another public hearing is set for March 22 at 6:30 p.m. during the Plymouth City Council meeting. Following that public hearing, the application will be finalized to be submitted to the state in mid-April. Bids for the project will be let in July with construction beginning in late September or early October. The project should be finished in the spring of 2022.
