The Indiana Department of Health expanded COVID-19 vaccine eligibility Tuesday morning to Indiana residents over the age of 60.
Health officials say the expansion makes the vaccine available to an additional 432,000 people.
The state continues to follow its prioritization plan in rolling out the vaccine to individuals. It currently involves Hoosiers over the age of 60, healthcare workers, first responders, long-term care facility residents, and those who are most vulnerable. The 60 and older population makes up more than 22 percent of the state’s population, but makes up about 64 percent of the COVID-19 hospitalizations and 93.3 percent of COVID-19 deaths.
Additional age groups will be added as more vaccine becomes available.
To schedule an appointment to receive the vaccine, visit https://ourshot.in.gov and select a location from one of more than 370 clinics around the state. Appointments can also be made by calling 211, AARP, or one of the state’s Agencies on Aging.
Vaccination clinics that are part of the federal vaccine program, including those at Walmart, Sam’s Club and Kroger, appear on the clinic map on the website, but are scheduled through those retailers’ platforms, not through the state centralized system.
Currently, over 60 percent of residents eligible to receive the vaccine have scheduled an appointment.
