Indiana Department of Health Announces Less than 1,800 new COVID-19 Cases

The number of Indiana residents testing positive for COVID-19 continues to be at a lower level with 1,733 new cases reported in Monday’s information released from the Indiana Department of Health.

There were 15 additional people who tested positive with COVID-19 in Marshall County, two in Starke County and two in Pulaski County. 

Of the 628,391 people who have had COVID-19, 21,824 people are actively fighting the virus, according to statistics from the Regenstrief Institute.  There were 1,594 people listed as being hospitalized as of Sunday, January 31. 

Another 16 people have died from COVID-19 in the state. 

It was announced early Monday morning that residents over the age of 65,  along with healthcare workers, long-term care residents and first responders who are regularly called to the scene of an emergency to render medical assistance, are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. As of Monday, 568,328 Hoosiers have received a first dose of vaccine, and 146,333 are fully vaccinated.

On the Indiana Department of Health’s school dashboard, 1,289 new student cases have been reported in the state from September 21 through January 29, 242 new teacher positive COVID-19 cases from September 17 through January 29 and 338 new staff positive cases from September 17 through January 29. 

Plymouth High School, Argos Junior/Senior High School, Argos Elementary School, Triton Junior/Senior High School, and Bremen Elementary/Middle School reported less than five student cases last week. 

Lincoln Junior High School, Argos Junior/Senior High School, Walkerton Elementary School, North Liberty Elementary School, Jefferson Elementary, LaVille Elementary School, and John Glenn High School reported less than five teacher cases.

Lincoln Jr. High School, Argos Junior/Senior High School, Triton Junior/Senior High School, Bremen Elementary/Middle School, Walkerton Elementary School, and North Liberty Elementary School reported less than five staff cases last week.
