An ice fisherman was rescued Sunday morning after he was reportedly stuck on the ice and having a medical issue.
Culver-Union Township Fire Department crews, along with Culver-Union Township EMS responded to the scene at about 8:43 a.m. ET. Firefighters used the department’s hovercraft to get to the patient and transport him to shore, according to the Fire Department’s Facebook page. The fisherman was treated and released by EMS personnel.
Firefighters urge residents to be cautious as ice conditions are rapidly deteriorating. They noted in a social media post that there are open water spots on Lake Maxinkuckee. They say it is a good idea to notify people where you will be on the lake and an estimated return time. Take a fishing companion and a life jacket for safety.
The Culver-Union Township Fire Department and Culver-Union Township EMS were assisted by Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Conservation officers.
