The property at 500 N. Michigan Street in Plymouth is now under the ownership of the City of Plymouth.
It was announced Wednesday that all of the paperwork was filed and the city closed on the property this week.
The building at that location formerly housed a Subway restaurant and a fireworks stand. The plans for the property include demolition of the existing structure, followed by the development of a pocket park called Crossroads Plaza. The project is a piece of the Regional Development Plan with the Marshall County Crossroads Regional Stellar Communities Initiative.
The plans involve creating a place where people can gather at the corner where four historic byways intersect there. Those byways include Lincoln Highway, Michigan Road, Yellowstone Trail and Dixie Highway. Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter said it is the vision of the Crossroads Arts and Culture Committee to make it a local educational and tourist site with the collaborative efforts of the City of Plymouth, the Marshall County Historical Museum and Crossroads Center, Marshall County Purdue Extension Office/Master Gardeners Program, and Marshall County Tourism.
The purchase price of the property was $104,404.03 as approved by the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members Monday night.
Work on the property should start yet this year.
