Indiana Department of Health officials reported 39 new COVID-19 deaths in the state in Monday’s coronavirus update and one of the deaths occurred in Starke County.
Starke County is now up to 41 COVID-19 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic. Marshall County stands at 81 deaths and Pulaski County stands at 33.
Another 3,630 people in the state have been diagnosed with COVID-19. Marshall County had 12 additional cases in Monday’s report for a new overall total of 4,621 cases, Starke County had six new cases for a new total of 1,584 and Pulaski County had two new cases for a new total of 867 cases.
Students, teachers and staff members have been out on winter break for the last several weeks, but the state recorded another 208 student cases in the state from December 5 through January 1, 98 teacher cases from November 27 to January 1, and 65 new staff cases from December 13 to January 1.
There were less than five new student cases reported at the North Judson-San Pierre Elementary School, Winamac Middle School, and LaVille Junior/Senior High School. There were less than five new student and staff cases at Plymouth High School.
Students who have opted to return to school in-person will do so this week following the extended break. Some students continue to participate with virtual learning.
