The tri-county area remains in the red county metric status which shows a very high community spread of COVID-19.
The Indiana Department of Health releases the weekly status update each Wednesday. This week’s report shows more counties in the red status, including Marshall, Starke and Pulaski Counties. There are 35 counties in orange. There are no counties that are in the yellow and blue categories which show lower community spread of COVID-19.
The statistics are driven by information from a week ago. Weekly cases per 100,000 residents in Marshall County was 512 for a 7-day all tests positivity rate of 19.8 percent. In Starke County, the weekly cases per 100,000 residents was 256 for a 7-day all tests positivity rate of 17.78 percent. Pulaski County’s weekly cases per 100,000 residents was 356 for a 7-day all tests positivity rate of 15.36 percent.
As for surrounding counties, Porter, Jasper, Cass, Fulton, Kosciusko, Elkhart and St. Joseph Counties are at an orange level status. La Porte County and White County remain as a red status county.
Wednesday’s report from the Indiana Department of Health showed that 6,214 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 with 21 new positive COVID-19 cases in Marshall County, 19 new cases in Starke County and 11 new cases in Pulaski County.
Another 80 people in the state died of COVID-19. One was a Marshall County resident.
More than 128,000 Indiana residents have received their first dose of vaccine, and more than 300,000 are scheduled to receive vaccine by the end of the month. More appointments are being scheduled daily.
