Marshall County Sheriff Provides Jail Update

The number of inmates at the Marshall County Jail who have tested positive for COVID-19 is now up to 130.

A Strike Team was at the jail on December 30 after several inmates were reportedly having health issues. Initially, 122 inmates tested positive with COVID-19 after the Strike Team tested inmates.  Since then, eight more inmates have tested positive.

Sheriff Matt Hassel stated in a press release that the last inmate to test positive was on January 5.

Hassel noted that the jail nurse conducted a “vitals check” Monday where only two inmates reported minor symptoms.  No inmate has had severe symptoms and no inmate has had the need to be at the hospital, according to Hassel’s update.

In a previous update, Hassel indicated that inmates who have tested negative for COVID-19 are checked daily by the nurse for symptoms.  All inmates are being treated on a case-by-case basis, as instructed by the medical provider.
