The Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board members continued discussions last week on the future placement of the old West Township Trustee building.
The building currently resides at 10108 State Road 17 and the property owner would like to have it removed, but keep its historical value.
The building was once home to the West Township Trustee and is estimated to be about 200 years old. There are some structural issues, but the members of the Marshall County Parks and Recreation Board are willing to look into the cost of having it moved or disassemble it to be moved and stored and later rehabilitated.
Richard Markley said he talked with the owner of the West Township School property which is located across State Road 17 from where the trustee building is located. Owner David Jackson said he has plans to rehabilitate the property, but would like to work with the board on a plan to move the building onto that property to keep historic value. He will work to survey the property for proper setback requirements. He would like to place it on the corner of the property where the memorial sits at Sycamore and State Road 17.
No definite plans were approved, and discussions will be ongoing in the coming months.
