Culver Community School Superintendent Karen Shuman gave an update on several building projects at the school corporation.
Plans for a new transportation building are awaiting state approval with an above ground diesel fuel tank for the buses. Shuman said the addition of the tank will save the corporation money.
Shuman stated, “That’ll be a bigger cost savings for us than paying the insurance and constant maintenance of an underground diesel tank that will be removed here shortly.”
Shuman commented that other projects from last year are done.
“Our heating and cooling project is finished. We’re just now working out the kinks and knowing how the system works. Our door project is almost complete. We just did a walk-through with the contractor on all of our doors and there are some punchlist things to do, but otherwise that project is complete too.”
The fencing project is ongoing. Thomas Excavating crews are installing new fencing at the Elementary School and at the Middle/High School. A portion of the cost of this project will come from a school safety grant in the amount of $100,000 and the rest will be paid with bond money.
