Bremen Town Council Discusses Park Board

The Bremen Town Council members held more discussion Monday night on changes made to a chapter of the Bremen Parks and Recreation Board ordinance.

Town Attorney Anthony Wagner said the changes were presented to the park board members at their most recent meeting.  In the amendment, the Park Board “shall have the power to perform all acts necessary to acquire and develop sites and facilities and to conduct such programs as are generally understood to be park and recreation functions.”

Certain actions must be presented to the Bremen Town Council in a public meeting for approval and the manner in which the park board members were appointed was clarified.

Also, the park superintendent would report to Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy with everyday matters.  When it comes to operational matters, Main will work with the park board members.

During Monday’s meeting, the management of the park board was still a topic of discussion.  The council members are concerned about the park board having more authority, but they want them to be more engaged in getting grants for projects.  They want the park board to show viability.

A job description for a park superintendent is also expected to be drafted the park board.

They stress that if there are complaints or other issues it goes to the park board.

While the council members have a few issues with the changes, Wagner urged them to let this current situation to play out for a few years.  If they are unhappy, they can make a decision on the future of the park board down the road.
