Bourbon Town Council Approves Police Car Purchase, Commend Officers for Work

The Bourbon Police Department will be getting a new 2021 Ford SUV Interceptor.

The Bourbon Town Council members approved the purchase of the new vehicle this week at a cost of $34,728.

The council members also commended the police department for maintaining coverage for 24 hours a day.  Town Council President Ward Byers said 2020 was a challenging year as he read aloud from the monthly activity report from the Bourbon Police Department.

“Bourbon Police Reserves worked a total of 240 hours in 2020,” stated Byers.  “The total worked on a solo shift by those officers was 1,924 hours.  So, you take that amount of hours times the hourly rate of pay in 2020 for a part-time police officer, the reserves in salary, saved the General Fund payroll $32,996.60.”

The council members expressed appreciation of their efforts.

Town Marshal Bill Martin said everyone did a great job, but Reserve Officers Ray Gleason and Dave Mitchell really stepped up efforts to help the department.
