One Additional Starke County Resident Dies of COVID-19

Another Starke County resident died of COVID-19, raising the total number of deaths in the county to 30, according to Monday’s report from the Indiana Department of Health.

Another 14 people in Marshall County have been diagnosed with COVID-19, with 18 additional positive cases in Starke County and 16 more cases in Pulaski County.  Marshall County has reported a total of 3,987 COVID-19 cases, Starke County has reported a total of 1,312 cases, and Pulaski County has reported a total of 657 cases. 

The Indiana Department of Health said 5,050 more residents have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the state to increase the overall total to 430,401 and 35 more people have died from the coronavirus for a new overall total of 6,530. 

On the state’s coronavirus website, the school COVID-19 data released Monday shows 2,393 student cases in the state from October 6 to December 11, 413 new teacher positive cases from October 18 to December 11 and 615 new staff positive cases from October 19 to December 11.   Several area schools reported five or less new cases of COVID-19 in students including Knox schools, North Judson-San Pierre schools, Eastern Pulaski Schools, West Central Elementary School, Argos Community Schools, Bremen Elementary School, Triton Jr./Sr. High Schools, La Ville Schools, Plymouth High School, Lincoln Jr. High School, Riverside Elementary School Washington Discovery Schools, John Glenn High School, North Liberty Elementary School, and Culver Academies.  Several of the same corporations reported five or less teacher and staff cases of COVID-19.

The age group of students with the highest percentage of COVID-19 cases is the 15-19 age group with 43 percent, followed by the 10-14 age group with 36.8 percent and the 5-9 age group with 18.8 percent.
