State Reports Additional 5,000 Residents Diagnosed with COVID-19

The Indiana Department of Health announced Monday that 5,218 more people in the state have been diagnosed with COVID-19.  Fifty of those residents recently diagnosed with COVID-19 are from Marshall County, 14 are from Starke County and three are from Pulaski County. 

In that report, it noted that a total 4,686 people in the state have died from COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, which is an increase of 26 from Sunday’s report.  No deaths occurred locally. 

According to the state’s COVID-19 dashboard that can be found at www.coronavirus.in.gov, the 20 to 29 age group is the group with the highest percentage of positive COVID-19 tests at 19.2 percent.  That age group is followed closely by the 40-49 age group with 14.9 percent, then the 30-39 age group with 14.6 percent and the 50-59 age group with 14.4 percent. 

The Department of Health also reported on that dashboard that 2,311 new student positive COVID-19 cases were filed last week, with 453 new teacher positive cases and 549 new staff positive cases.  A total of 8,217 student cases have been reported to the state, with 1,685 total positive teacher COVID-19 cases and 1,971 total positive staff cases. 

Free drive-thru clinics will be offered at four locations in the state Tuesday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time this week.  The closest location is at the Kankakee Fire Station in Wheatfield.
