The week of Thanksgiving will be a little different for John Glenn School Corporation students this year.
Superintendent Christopher Winchell announced last week that Thanksgiving break will include November 25-27 as the holiday break for students this year. However, Monday, November 23 and Tuesday, November 24 will serve as eLearning days instead of in-person instruction days. Students will return to full in-person instruction on Monday, November 30.
Winchell stated that the idea is to provide a “more substantial holiday break for everyone and minimize on-campus traffic.”
He noted that the John Glenn School Corporation has seen six positive COVID-19 cases among staff, and 14 positive cases among students since October 12. The positivity rate in the local school community remains small, but it has affected students and staff with contact tracing. Close contact absenteeism, Winchell stated, has averaged 5-10 percent daily.
Winchell stressed the intention is to continue in-person instruction unless there is a substantial local outbreak, or health officials determine that is the best action to take concerning local community COVID-19 spread.
