The Culver Town Council is voicing its support for Marshall County’s new face mask requirements. Council members voted Tuesday to officially affirm the “COVID-19 Face Mask Requirements for Local Workplace Safety and Enforcement” ordinance, at the recommendation of Council President Ginny Bess Munroe.
“We sent a copy of this out to the council members, noting that this is a county-wide ordinance including the City of Plymouth and all of the towns in the county,” Munroe explained. “And we thought it would be a good idea to have the council weigh in on affirming that we are going to support and follow this county-wide ordinance.”
Among other things, the ordinance includes a $100 fine and notes that businesses that refuse to comply could also be shut down. Additionally, those who refuse to wear a mask and won’t leave a business when asked are subject to prosecution for the Class B misdemeanors of trespass or disorderly conduct.
Council Member Rich West said that, based on his understanding, the town isn’t allowed to lessen any of those requirements, but may theoretically be more stringent if it so chooses.
