Plymouth City Council members adopted two ordinances Monday night that sets increases in the water utility and stormwater and hydrant fees.
Eric Walsh from Baker Tilly reminded the council members that the ordinances are a result of discussions of ways to raise revenues to help the General Fund budget. It is a response to lost revenue in property tax caps.
The stormwater fee will move from $2.05 to $5.00 on a resident’s utility bill, along with a $3.49 fire protection surcharge fee, or hydrant rental.
The total increase a residential customer would see on the utility bill would be $6.44 per month
Commercial increases will differ depending on the size of water meters and the number of water meters.
Walsh said with these adjustments, about $420,000 will be freed up in the General Fund for other uses. He noted that even with the adjustments, the utility rates in the City of Plymouth remain comparable with the state and surrounding areas.
Outside of questions from council members, no other public comments were given during the meeting. The council passed the Water Utility Rate ordinance and the Sewage Rate ordinance on second and third readings with a unanimous vote.
