Bremen School Officials Hopeful that Schools Stay Open up to Christmas Break

Bremen school officials are hopeful that in-person instruction can continue in the schools up until Christmas break, but it will depend on the community spread of COVID-19.

Currently, Bremen High School students are participating in virtual learning until Monday, November 30.

Elementary/Middle School Principal Larry Yelaska told the Bremen Public School Board members last week that there is not an issue with having substitute teachers available with teachers out of school for various reasons.  He said instruction is going smoothly.

High School Principal Bruce Jennings told the school board members that he hopes that everyone stays healthy over the holiday weekend so the school buildings can stay open for in-person instruction after students return there on November 30.

He noted that there are 43 remote learners by choice which is a reduction from 85 at the beginning of the year.  Officials are reaching out to six or eight students who are not performing well with virtual learning.  They are attempting to get them engaged on a consistent basis.

Athletic Director Troy Holmes told the board revenue was not affected in fall sports, but the health pandemic may play a major factor in revenue as many basketball games have already canceled.

The school board members commended teachers, staff members and the school nurse for making the effort to do what is best to help everyone stay healthy and safe.
