Voters who have requested an absentee ballot by mail are encouraged to get those ballots in the mail yet this week in order to be counted on Election Day.
Absentee ballots must be received by the Clerk’s Office by noon local time on Election Day Tuesday, November 3 or they will not be officially counted in the election.
Several voters request a mail ballot and simply deliver it to the Clerk’s Office by hand, which is permissible. A member of an immediate household member can deliver an absentee ballot, if it is not that own person’s ballot.
If a voter has requested an absentee ballot and decides to vote at the polls on Election Day, that empty ballot may be returned to a poll worker with an excuse and paperwork may be completed in order to vote at the polls. As added security, the e-poll book will be able to determine if an absentee ballot was mailed or returned to reduce the chance of voter fraud. There are still several hundred mail ballots that need to be returned to Clerk’s Offices in the tri-county area and officials are watching to make sure they will be available to be counted on Election Day
