Construction crews will begin working on a solar project at the North Liberty Elementary School this week.
As previously reported, the school board members officially signed a contract with Johnson-Melloh Solutions to work on a solar panel project at the North Liberty Elementary School. The contract is for about $701,000 for a 350 kilowatt solar system with an upgrade to LED lighting and updated lighting controls.
John Glenn School Superintendent Christopher Winchell previously said the solar array would be placed on green space on the property of the North Liberty Elementary School in between the playground and the football field and track.
Winchell updated the John Glenn School Board members about the project Tuesday night.
“They will be tearing down some fencing and tearing out the old discus and shot put ring. That’s going to be getting started this week,” commented Winchell.
It is the school board’s intent to attempt to reduce overall energy costs at the corporation, as well as provide a green energy curriculum for John Glenn students.
