Marshall County Sheriff’s Department to Participate in National Drug Take Back Day

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department will participate in the DEA National Drug Take Back event on Saturday, October 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel said the Sheriff’s Department is partnering with Michiana Behavioral Health and the 525 Foundation in the event that allows residents to drop off any expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs in a safe manner.

The drop off points will include the Walgreens store at 2014 N. Michigan Street in Plymouth and Michiana Behavioral Health at 1800 N. Oak Drive in Plymouth.  Officers will be on hand to assist with taking the items at those locations with no questions asked.

Sheriff Hassel cited a 2009 national survey on drug use and health that indicated there were more Americans abusing psychotherapeutics than cocaine, heroin and hallucinogens combined.  He added that expired, unused or unwanted medications in homes are a potential supply source to drug abusers which creates a risk to public health and safety. Sheriff Hassel encourages residents to rid their homes of these prescription drugs.
