Indiana had the largest single-day increase of positive COVID-19 cases reported on Thursday. The Indiana Department of Health announced that 1,962 additional Indiana residents have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing. The overall total of positive cases in the state is 141,212.
Marshall County had another 22 positive cases reported on Thursday to push the overall positive case count to 1,239. Starke County and Pulaski County each had one new case. Starke County’s new cumulative case count is 355 and Pulaski County’s new total case count is 126.
Patients are in varying stages of fighting the virus and recovering from the virus. Thirty-four people have died from COVID-19 in the tri-county area.
Indiana State Department of Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lindsay Weaver commented during the governor’s press conference on Wednesday that the Indiana Department of Health was experiencing technical issues with the reporting system, specifically manual entries, which could result in an “influx of cases all at once.”
The Department of Health also reported Wednesday that the availability of ICU beds is becoming a concern. Fifty percent of ICU beds are in use for non-COVID-19 related cases while 17 percent are being used for COVID-19 patients. The availability of ICU beds is at 32 percent. The number of ventilators in use is not a concern.
