A Kokomo man was arrested in the overnight hours on Tuesday after a traffic stop in the area of U.S. 31 and 12th Road in Marshall County.
Marshall County police say a deputy responded to the area after receiving a call about a possible impaired driver. A traffic stop was conducted and the deputy reportedly found 47-year-old Richard Lee Mitchell under the influence of controlled substances. The deputy allegedly found suspected heroin, methamphetamine, syringes, and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Mitchell also attempted to destroy evidence at the scene, according to the report.
Mitchell was transported to the hospital for a certified chemical test and was later booked into the Marshall County Jail on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, cocaine or a narcotic drug, and paraphernalia, along with unlawful possession of a syringe, obstruction of justice, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person.
Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
