Culver Town Council Revises Parking Ordinance

The Culver Town Council members took action to amend the parking regulations ordinance at their meeting Tuesday night.

During the council’s last meeting in July, Culver Community School Superintendent Karen Shuman requested a parking change along Lake Shore Drive to accommodate an anticipated increase in parents dropping off and picking up students at the Culver Community Elementary School during the school year.

Another request to change the ordinance was presented at Tuesday night’s meeting.  Council President Ginny Bess Munroe read aloud from the ordinance that states that a no parking zone will be extended on the north side of Lake Shore Drive between School Street and Slate Street.

Munroe continued, “There will no parking allowed on the north side of Lake Shore Drive beginning 30 feet west of the intersection of School Street and Lake Shore Drive, heading west for 260 feet to the school bus parking entrance.  The parallel parking space previously designated as handicapped parking shall no longer be designated as handicapped parking.  It shall be incorporated into the no parking zone.”

There will be no parking on Lake Shore Drive in front of the school from 7:45 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., and between 2:45 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on school days.  There will be no parking on Fridays during the school year from 1:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The council members unanimously suspended the rules and approved the amendment on all three readings.
