The Bremen Town Council members began discussions earlier this month on separating the superintendent duties between the water and street departments. They decided Monday night to move forward with that process.
The utilities were combined about 30 years ago, but Water, Wastewater and Street Superintendent Alex Mikel told the town council it is time to start thinking about an additional utility superintendent to oversee operations.
Mikel said he would assume the water superintendent’s responsibilities if another person could be hired either in-house or externally for the street superintendent’s position.
He commented Monday night that he already has a plan in place. All that needs to be done is to set an Executive Session meeting to discuss personnel.
Clerk-Treasurer Janet Anglemyer said she consulted with a Baker Tilly representative and Mikel about if the budget could support an additional superintendent and it was determined that it can. She said the change would be supported in the 2021 budget, if the council decided to move forward with the separation.
The council members agreed to move forward with the process and set an Executive Session meeting for Monday, Nov. 9 to discuss the employee structure of the change. Executive Session meetings are typically closed to the public.
