The downtown project in Bremen is ongoing. INDOT has completed work on State Road 106, or Plymouth Street, in downtown Bremen, but work continues on other portions of the project.
The project includes the replacement sidewalks and curbs, and installation of new lighting and beautification efforts as part of the downtown revitalization project. The project is part of the county’s Regional Development Plan in the Regional Stellar Communities Initiative which will benefit from grant dollars from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs.
Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy commented Monday to the town council members that the electrical portion of the project is fairly slow. Contractors from R. Yoder Construction are attempting to move the process along, but it is taking some time.
He said the project should be complete by November 21.
“The thing that won’t be done will be the stop lights,” explained Weldy. “So that everybody knows the stop lights will not be here. They’re pushed back until December 10. We’ll have to have a four-way stop in the middle in the road if we decide to do that.”
He stressed that no traffic will be allowed on Plymouth Street until the project is complete.
Weldy added, “We have permission from INDOT to keep the street closed. I don’t want a lot of people driving on the street because we’ll have all sorts of construction crews putting up light poles, pouring concrete, doing all of this other stuff. I know people are going say ‘Hey the street is done and we’re ready to go! Why can’t we drive on it?’ Well, it’s because we’ve got all of this other construction going on.”
Motorists may be ticketed for going around the barricades.
