Firefighters were on the scene of a fire at a grain elevator in Argos for about two hours Sunday morning.
Argos Fire Department PR Lieutenant Dennis Marks told MAX 98.3 FM news that corn had been drying in the grain elevator at 214 E. South Street since 2 a.m. when a fire broke out just before 10 a.m. at the top of the structure. Argos firefighters focused on the top of the elevator and called for assistance from the Plymouth Fire Department who used the aerial fire truck to concentrate on the middle part of the structure.
They pulled out corn out of the bottom of the elevator and contained the fire.
Marks said the exact cause of the fire is unknown.
No injuries were reported.
Marks added that the Argos firefighters responded to a fire in a corn field on 20th Road Saturday which was caused by metal pieces rubbing together on a combine during harvest. The Tippecanoe Fire Department assisted at that call.
