Officials turned some dirt Tuesday morning to welcome the upcoming construction of a new manufacturing center at 2809 Jim Neu Drive in Plymouth.
The building will be 43,000 square feet that is expandable to over 100,000 square feet to fit a company’s needs with easy access to U.S. 30 and U.S. 31. Majority Builders is the contractor for the project.
Marshall County Economic Development Corporation CEO Jerry Chavez said that the $2.1 million project will be funded, in part, by a Regional Development Authority loan of $400,000 and $1.7 million to be financed by MCEDC through Centier Bank.
The MCEDC is developing this manufacturing center in collaboration with the Marshall County Commissioners, Marshall County Council, City of Plymouth, Plymouth Redevelopment Commission, and Regional Development Authority. When complete, this manufacturing center will be the third of its kind in Marshall County. The first manufacturing center now houses Pretzels, Inc. that is currently undergoing an expansion project. The second manufacturing center is home to Sequel Wire in Argos, where over 100 jobs will be available to area residents.
MCEDC officials say providing manufacturing centers attracts industrial business to the area, which will create jobs, grow the population, increase the local tax base, and strengthen the local economy. They are working to market the facility to put a tenant in the space by the spring of 2021.
Several speakers gave comments during the event, including Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter, Marshall County Commission President Kevin Overmyer, Marshall County Council President Judy Stone, Plymouth Redevelopment Commission President Mike Miley, and John DeSalle who is the Executive Engineer in Residence, iNDustry Labs at the University of Notre Dame and representative from Regional Development Authority.
More on this event can be heard on Sunday, Sept. 20 during the Maximum Impact program at noon on MAX 98.3 FM.
