New Lincoln Junior High School Now Open, But Work Continues

The new Lincoln Junior High School is officially open to students, but crews are still putting the finishing touches on the building. Plymouth School Superintendent Andy Hartley told the school board last week that the entrance awnings should be finished up this week, following manufacturing delays with the metal panels.

The flooring for the fitness and wrestling rooms was set to be remanufactured this week, after installers previously found a defect. A new storage building is being constructed, and work continues on punch list items.

Meanwhile, Hartley said renovations have begun in the original Lincoln building. “It’s been fascinating to walk through there and see the original terrazzo floor from 1923, which we cannot necessarily restore, but, nonetheless, it’s there and fascinating to see the history of that,” Hartley told the school board. “So that portion will be kept, and construction and renovations are already underway.”

The rest of the old school is currently being demolished. Hartley reminded board members that bricks from the Centennial Gym will be saved. “Additionally – and I’ve mentioned this before but just as a reminder to those listening and here – the sign that was a part of the original Centennial Auditorium will be incorporated into a decorative piece on the new entrance of the building,” Hartley said. “So we’re excited to see all of that come into play here later on.”

Hartley also reported that the HVAC project at Plymouth High School has reached substantial completion. Now, crews are just working on punch list or warranty items, as they’re noticed.
