The Indiana Secured School Board announced Monday that Indiana schools received grant funding from Secured School Safety Grant program administered by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
More than $19 million was approved for 418 school corporations around the state to provide funding for school resource officers and law enforcement officers in schools, equipment and technology, active event warning systems (no matching requirement), firearms training for teachers and staff that choose to allow guns on school property, threat assessments, and to implement a student and parent support services program.
Officials say the $19 million investment in schools is the largest investment ever dedicated to safety in Indiana schools.
The schools must provide a match and the level of the match is based on average daily membership of the school district, the total amount of the project or what the request covers.
Locally, Argos Community School Corporation received $40,000, Bremen Public Schools received $26,435, Culver Community School Corporation received $100,000, John Glenn Community School Corporation received $16,170, Plymouth Community School Corporation received $22,388, Triton Community School Corporation received $18,900, Union-North United School Corporation received $50,000, and St. Michael School received $30,605.06.
