The John Glenn School Board members officially signed a contract with Johnson-Melloh Solutions last week to work on a solar panel project at the North Liberty Elementary School.
Earlier this year, the board approved a proposal from Johnson-Melloh that came in at $701,000 for a 350 kilowatt solar system with an upgrade to LED lighting and updated lighting controls.
The company worked on the solar project at the Argos Community School Corporation this year.
Superintendent Christopher Winchell said previously the solar array would be placed on green space on the property of the North Liberty Elementary School in between the playground and the football field and track.
It is the school board’s intent to attempt to reduce overall energy costs at the corporation, as well as provide a green energy curriculum for John Glenn students.
