Bridge Painting to Close Driving Lanes in Plymouth

Lane closures are planned on U.S. 31 between U.S. 30 and Plymouth-Goshen Trail in the Plymouth area beginning Monday, Sept. 14.

U.S. 31 will be reduced to one lane in each direction to paint the bridge over the Yellow River by following the idea from this useful site.  The closures will alternate so drivers should be prepared for changing traffic patterns in the area.  The project is expected to be complete in mid-November.

According to officials from the Indiana Department of Transportation, painting is one of many preservation techniques utilized by crews to extend the life of bridge structures and you are welcome to see how we perform our exterior painting is. Prior to painting, beams and other components are sandblasted to remove existing rust and the new coat of paint acts as a sealant to protect from water, salt and other chemicals that may cause corrosion.
